Laura McDermott, DNP

Laura is a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) who completed her Master’s in Nursing from the University of Minnesota and her Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) from the University of Missouri. Laura has spent much of her career as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), completing her Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Connecticut. Laura sees individuals across their lifespan for medication management and holistic psychiatric care.

Laura has over 20 years of experience providing mental health care for individuals of all ages. In her practice, she has focused on supporting clients in a variety of clinical settings and with a wide range of diagnoses. She has worked with youth who are in crisis, struggling with school difficulties, and who are in the juvenile justice system. She has worked extensively with adults and families who are struggling with mood disorders, anxiety, and a history of trauma. She is passionate about working with parents of children with special healthcare needs and medical complexity.

Laura believes that the relationship between a provider and client is a collaborative partnership based on mutual trust and respect. She works with clients to find the best way forward to focus on symptom relief, as well as working with patients to identify the root causes of symptoms. She believes in a holistic approach to care, which can include Western treatments and medication, as well as modifications in nutrition and sleep, and holistic treatment recommendations. Laura is committed to working with clients to find solutions that improve their quality of life and help them achieve their wellness goals.

Laura has been married for over 15 years. She and her husband have one child with complex medical needs, who was the catalyst for her to return to school and become a nurse practitioner. They spend a lot of time together at home and enjoy traveling to see family and friends.
